I want to tkae this opportunity to congratulate the St. Joseph High School Debating Club on the occasion of hte DEBATE FESTIVAL to be held in the first week of December 1999.
Debating has beenm part of the St. Joseph school co-curriculam since 1969. When I first came to St. Joseph in February. 1967 I founded the St. Joseph newspaper, " The Sentinel," as a means for the students to express their ideas in the newprint. Shortly after, the Debating Club was eastablished, by Mr. Moinuddin, with the same purpose of allowing students to debate and discuss various topics of current interest.
We hope that in the future, our young Debates from around the country, will eventually be partv of the governing body of Bangladesh, So that your exprience as debates can be put to good use to resolve and seattle ( around the table, and not on the streets ) the vast Problems that beset the country.
Adherence to Democratic Principle is inherent to good Governance.
I wish all the participants the best of success in the debates. Win or lose, its the participation that counts.
