It gives me great pleasure to wish the J.D.C. Festival great success. This is another unique initiative of a society which has done more for inter school debating, in Dhaka, than any other organisation.
The Josephite Debating Club was first one to introduce an English Inter School debate competition in this city. Since thouse early days it has gone from strenght to strength: And, it was through the inspiration of st. Joseph's, and with their encouragement and support, that S.F.X. Greenherald followed in their footsteps, with a similar competition in March 1999 - something we hope to continue, on a yearly basis.
Debates gives us a marvellous opportunity to bring together, in a spirit of friendship and cooperation. They help in developing skills in planning and organisation. They are great confidence - Builders. They help young stars to develop their oral communication skills to be more articulate, to express their views, to be tolerant of the ideas of others. And while achieving all this, they gain a reservoir of knowledge that widens their horzons, far beyond the confines of examinations.
The Josephite Debating Club opened windows and doors to students when it became the forerunner in this vast field of opportunity. To all its members, we offer congratulations. To their dedicated moderator, Mr. Moinuddin, we say a special thank you, ans to all those past ( and Present ) executive members , well done.
